     10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Learning to pattern and mock up a sleek 19th century bodice is Val Mayse’s favorite introduction to the craft of draping.  Students will cover sculpting a shape on the form and turning it into a pattern as well as taking a  look at lapels and collars. This is a fairly advanced class intended for experienced first hand level folks who want to try draping in a low-stress environment.

Bring your own cutting shears, sewing snips, and paper scissors; a clear ruler, and a curved ruler, if you have one; and a pattern notcher, if you have one.

Instructor Val Mayse has been a professional draper for over 40 years, and has been teaching for 17, for both the Training Trust and the UW School of Drama.  Her draping and teaching style is intuitive, philosophic, and funny!

This 3 day class will be held December 4 -6, 2023 at the Seattle Rep Costume Shop. Classes will begin each day and 10 am and go until 4 pm.
