On Day One of this course, candidates must:

- Demonstrate the ability to climb a wire ladder from a deck to a grid at least 40 feet above the deck in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate the ability to pull 50 pounds with a rope and pulley to at least 40 feet above the deck, secure the load and lower it to the ground under control.
- Demonstrate ability to walk the grid with confidence, sit down and stand back up on the grid, manage rope and pull up 50 pounds hand-over-hand while following all the basic fall arrest commandments.
Candidates must successfully demonstrate all of the above in order to receive further instruction in open beam rigging on Day One and be qualified to return for more instruction on Day Two.
