IATSE Local 15 has partnered with the Washington Labor Education and Research Center to present a three-part training series on Organizing and building Union Power in the workplace for rank and file workers.

These FREE classes include:

  • Part 1 (Nov 16) A Power-Based Approach to Union Building: What does power in the workplace look like to you? In this class, we’ll root our union work in a shared understanding of leverage, tactics, and how power functions in and beyond our workplace. This class will prepare us to shift the way we talk with our coworkers about forming and joining unions. We’ll talk power maps, ways to approach colleagues, and narrative framing.
  • Part 2 (Nov 30): Structured Organizing Conversations: A strong campaign to form a union must be rooted in the issues that matter most to our coworkers. In this class, we’ll discuss the benefits of intentional, structured membership conversations that center building genuine relationships in our union. Together, we’ll take a closer look at listening strategies, effective asks, fostering solidarity, and moving our coworkers to take action.
  • Part 3 (Dec 14th): Overcoming Objections and Answering Hard Questions: Different jobs call for different tools – and that includes when we’re talking to our coworkers! In this class, we will discuss the Membership Conversation Toolkit, outlining different strategies for dealing with objections, hard questions, and other difficulties in getting members to take action. Explore practical approaches to tackling sticky organizing conversations, dealing with doubt, and re-directing to build power.
