The Marriage of Draping and Drafting

The class is taught by Val Mayse, assisted by Jim Westerland.  This is an advanced class, appropriate for drapers, first hands, and stitchers with at least five years of professional experience and familiarity with industrial sewing machines.

There are good reasons for draping a bodice or vest instead of using a block, but after that, most of the patterning is done flat.  In this four day class, you will practice draping, drafting, where they overlap, and when you might want to switch from one to the other.

Day 1) Draping a fitted bodice

Day 2) Changing the seams

Day 3) Changing the size

Day 4) Adding a collar

The class will take place July 13-16 at the Seattle Opera Costume Shop, 321 Mercer St, Seattle WA 98109

The daily schedule will be from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We will take a short break in the middle of the day for lunch.

Paper, muslin, pins and thread will be provided.
